Hungry Heads Gourmet Food

Those living in Knysna will agree that Tammy Turner’s white “how hungry are you?” Hungryheads catering van is almost as much of an institution in Knysna as The Heads themselves.

Head girl and Head chef Tammy sharpened her knives at Cape Town’s renowned Sillwood kitchen whereafter she opted for a “greater freedom” route and went straight into catering and creating her own range of Hungryheads products. Quirkily packaged items that range from chocolate orange biscottis to blueberry jams. In the three years since Hungryheads has been in operation, Tammy has seen and done it all: hosting early morning breakfasts on the top of impossible mountains, catering for fairytale weddings, to working along side with international chef Ross Burden during the 2005 Oyster Festival, nothing is too big, too small or too offbeat for this plucky Garden Route girl.

But apart from Tammy’s obvious strengths in the kitchen, Hungryheads also prides itself on its concept décor – always adding another dimension to the experience. For example, in Tammy’s mind, a Moroccan evening isn’t complete without its very own Bedouin tent, low tables and plush floor cushions. Tammy also brought a wine evening to life with table displays of common wine tasting notes of fresh asparagus, dark chocolate and wood shavings.

Excellent food, great friends and a warm atmosphere is all the nourishment that Tammy’s culinary soul needs. A philosophy that guests will agree comes through each and every Hungryheads catered event.
