This is a special evening. If you appreciate good, real, authentic tastes with delicious local wines – this is a must.
Alje van Deemter is a cheese maker in the Tsitsikamma area. He started off as a micro biologist and then went farming where he has his own goats. He has perfected the cheese making process and has won prizes in world competitions in Europe.
This evening of the “Taste of World Class Cheese and Wine” is conducted by him. He talks about the milk, the process of making the cheese, why the handmade cheeses are so exceptional with specific textures, tastes and look. The mechanically made cheese are incomparable. A starter and Bramon wine is served on entry for the evening. Alje makes mozzarella cheese right there in front of your eyes and serves a variety of 5 mozzarella cheeses to taste. When a specialist presents, illustrates and demonstrates this very specialised technique- only then do you appreciate the intricacies of this skill. Facts that you do not always think about are revealed and cast a light on reality.
Thereafter a beautiful simple meal is served including a cheese plate – all cheeses made from raw milk, by hand and with care and passion; bread baked while the cheese making process is going on; a salad with all ingredients harvested from his garden and wines selected from Bramon wines, Plettenburg Bay. A baked ricotta cheese cake is the dessert – of course all made from start to end by Alje himself. Beautiful Bramon Wines compliment each course. [email protected]
