WHO IS FRANKO GÖHSE?

Franko was born in the beautiful city of Leipzig in 1970, in a time when the east of Germany was under siege by Russian communist rule. In 1986 Franko stepped out of his Polish grandmother's home kitchen and into professional training to become a chef.

This was the beginning of a long lasting romance with food. 3 years later, Franko burst into a new phase of developing his skill when he escaped from behind the iron curtain. A teenager swimming for his life to an unknown world, over the Danube River from Czechoslovakia to Hungary up to Austria and finally arriving free in West Germany with nothing more than a thorough training in the art of classical French cuisine and an unbreakable spirit determined to fulfil His destiny.

At just 21years old Franko had paid dues, working 17 hour days that earned him achieving a remarkable standard to become youngest Head chef in Germany at “Restaurant de France” in Frankfurt am Main consistently rated one of Germanys leading restaurants.

A dream to travel to Africa, a seemingly impossible wild boyhood ideal was realized a decade after he first entered the arena of professional cooking, when he arrived in sunny South Africa in 1996. Today in 2006 Franko has an exquisite restaurant, designed with impeccable taste for uncomplicated streamline efficiency.

A space for the creation of innovative dishes inspired by the natural beauty of Plettenburg Bay. He develops his recipes using locally produced organic products. His influence in the area has encouraged local farmers to grow organic vegetables especially for him such as Jerusalem artichokes and broad beans which he serves with a matured beef sirloin rich in flavours accompanied by a Spanish tomato salad and red onion, cucumber and ginger salsa.

No fuss. Contempory originality with reference to a classical heritage flows harmoniously from Franko like consommé freshly strained through muslin cloth.
