Ownership
Avondale Bio-LOGIC & Organic wines is the trading name for The Avondale Trust, a South African family association shared by the Grieve family of Paarl and Cape Town, South Africa.
Founders John and Ginny Grieve acquired Avondale wine farm in 1997, produced the first wines in 1999, and since 2000, the business has grown consistently under the ‘green’ hands of general manager Johnathan Grieve.
Sustainable vision General Manager and viticulturist Johnathan Grieve consider himself the caretaker of a unique piece of land in Paarl. The only way to preserve this gem for future generations is to farm in a sustainable and environmentally friendly ways.
This respect for nature and the natural power of the soil, is mirrored in the family’s respect for farm workers and the social care for them and their children.
Our wines Our grapes are grown free of artificial fertilizer or pesticides and herbicides - Mother Nature must agree with everything we do. Our wines are made in the most natural way possible to allow the mineral flavours of the wines to show.
Approach to business As a family-driven hands-on wine business, Avondale treasures long-term business relationships where the same views are shared by our partners. We believe we present wines of quality which ware made with tremendous personal care and planning – wines that are not showy, but enjoyable. This is mirrored our business approach, which is low-key, yet solid and sustainable.
