From people for people - 24 – 28 September 2009

Food with integrity, slow food, non industrialised food, non toxic food ... you can go on and on. Somehow we have to get it right - why? Food that has been produced, processed and prepared throughout the past years has left us with many health problems – we are so tired of being sick and tired!

Have you thought about it – food that is produced in an environment is influenced by people, prepared in various ways by people for people to enjoy. It is this consciousness of the interrelatedness of the environment and man that brings people together every year during Gastronomica. The festival takes place from 24 to 28 September this year where Gastronomica promotes the principles of fun, good food, enjoyment, integrity, preventative health, beauty and organic food, with cutting edge lifestyle management.

Gastronomica’s ultimate goal is to provide a platform for people to present integrated approaches to a meaningful and sustainable lifestyle for the people.

In keeping with these principles, ingredients used should be locally sourced from people that you know, fresh and in season. Local restaurants and other food ventures who offer a Gastronimica experience spoil their guests with food within the above guidelines and also MSG, additive, colourant and preservative free.

The festival sets off this year very aptly on Heritage Day on the 24th. On the menu for people attending Gastronomica is the food Theatre that bustles with charming live local entertainment, a bunch of kids events, stacks of food, a food photographic review, organic produce, preparing and cooking demonstrations with local and organic produce and fish from the sea.

Other highlights on the programme are two stunning “Food of the future” early evening events: and “Artisan cheese and wine treat”, “Raw food and wine tapas evening” and “Feeding the Nation” take place on 24th 26th and 27th September. This is where fluffy, flaky, firm, crisp, crunchy, smooth, vegetal and rounded flavours come to mind. For all the admirers of SA Idols – Jason’s Concert is on Friday 25th September is definitely a highlight. Information on the new natural way of living will be presented through meaningful presentations.

A professional bread workshop is an integral part of Gastronomica. Gastronomica will also encourage a waste free festival by demonstrating natural and bio-degradable decorations and wrapping.

Diarise the 24th to the 28th of September. Gastonome or not, Gastronomica will infuse your senses and put forward how to eat (and live!) in the most beautiful environment of Knysna conducive to a natural lifestyle.
